  • If you are someone who is shopping for a diamond engagement ring, then you’re probably planning a proposal in the near future. First off - Congrats! Proposing to a girl is an exciting time in your life and is something that every girl has envisioned since she was a young girl.

Most guys get nervous about one thing - finding an engagement ring! Many guys think that this is the hardest part of proposing. Everyone knows that a diamond is a girl’s best friend! Unfortunately, most guys have never bought a diamond before so they have no idea what to look for.

It’s easy to get a confused when you first walk into a jewelry store. You see all these shiny diamonds and some very big pricetags! It’s no mystery that the salesperson is going to show you the highest priced ones first!

Don’t panic! Trust me, you will find a fantastic engagement at an unbelievable price. Don’t pay attention to the first prices that are presented to you in the stores - the costs are NOT what you will pay. There’s a lot of wiggle room and more importantly, you can hunt for a diamond with certain characteristics in order to get the most bang for your buck.

One of the most important parts of hunting for a diamond ring is to be educated about how diamonds are graded. Look for a diamond buying guide to help you out here. Understand the “4 C’s” and how diamonds are graded.

Once you do this, you will have a clearer understanding of what is considered when pricing a diamond. From there, it’s up to you to select which grading characteristics are most important to you when selecting a ring.

It’s important to decide how much you are willing to spend, and try to stay in that pricerange. You can increase the size of your diamond just by dropping down a grade in one of the 4 C’s. For example, by going from a “F” color diamond down to an “I”, you will conserve big bucks or be able to bump up the size of the diamond by a good amount.

Best of luck during this exciting time!
