Reading is enormously critical to me, and I want it to be important to my kids too. Although most times, being outside riding on the latest kids scooters would be a good deal more fun, developing the habit and love for reading is important.

As kids get older, the same old childrens book is just not going to continue to be appealing. Your kids may have a few stories that they enjoy hearing over and over again, but they’ll begin to tell them back to you seeing as they know it so well. Even supposing they cannot read yet, they have heard the stories so many times that they can deliver them verbally to you word for word. That’s typically when you know it’s time to invest in some extra books for the collection.

On occasion they are ready for more intricate stories. And of course it’s good to get a book with a lot of chapters that’s geared to their age. Something that can read a little each night before bed, but not something that can be finished immediately. It should be a basic story that can be clearly understood and easily remembered from night to night, but yet a book complex enough to expand their imagination as we read through it.

Usually, I like to hunt for a new childrens book at our neighboring bookstore. For the sake of simplicity, I customarily stay away from a long book series and look for short books that I read and get through in a handful of sittings maximum.

I’ll additionally ask friends and relatives and get suggestions and recommendations of their preferred childrens book and carry that list with me during my search. Since all children are distinct and have their own likes and dislikes I at all times base my ultimate decisions on the child’s personality and interests.

Many times I will buy 2-3 books and let them to make the ultimate book choice. Letting the child be a part of the final choosing and decision-making always makes them more thrilled about starting a new book.
