Make Your Own Duvet Covers
If you have been trying to buy a duvet cover then you probably well shocked to find out about how expensive the process can be. Do not throw in the towel just yet because there is another way - make the cover on your own. This article focuses on providing you with some basics on this subject matter.
For a first timer making them may be a bit of a struggle and probably not the best quality like the typical duvet cover sets you find in stores but depending on how fast you catch on it can be something to be proud of. The first hurdle you are probably going to encounter is that of making the perfect insertion point i.e. where the sheets are inserted. the problem may be with the sewing at the top where you would have your closures.
To try and assist you with this, start by organizing the sheets. Make them to be the material that you like - for example if you want a denim duvet cover then it’s best you get the matching material. Pin the side and the bottom before moving on to the top section. Then after you can also think about how to fold the top sides.
Now, you will have to make buttonholes at the top, right where the two sheet ends join together, and use buttons to close. You do have an option to use ribbons if you love them. If the sheet is longer than the quilt then fold it down on one side - about 12 inches. The next step is to then stitch it up on the sides to make it look like an envelope closure.
When it comes to chooing the closure you can go for Velcro if you like something stiff, a zipper, snap tape or just snaps. My best option is nylon zippers. This is because they make it easy for me to dress up the bed.
